3:29 pm - Big Money Texas or bust!
My first band broke up about ten years ago. Well, I guess we didn't "break up." We grew up. We graduated. Some left town. Some left the country. We were called The Beaumont Baroque Ensemble. I played violin, and I loved every minute of it. Westminster Presbyterian Church (530 N Main St) was our base for operations. We were given a place to practice, and we were given a stage every sunday if we wanted it. Dr. Hirano believed in us and did everything he could to cultivate progress for our little group. He took us on the road. He would sit in on practices. He would organize fundraisers. He loved for us to play during his Sunday services. He was always smiling.

We branched out. We got our own gigs that became more frequent and fancy. But Westminster was our home. It was where we were taken care of.

I hate that I sometimes see things more clearly when they're just memories. It's achy because it's tinged with a little regret. I could have done more to cherish. I could have done more to live it. I know that I was grateful, but did they know?

Dr. Hirano passed away before we disbanded, and we played at his memorial service. I remember being so thankful, and I remember the lump in my throat as I played that day.

That was ten years ago. I honestly don't know how many times I've set foot in that creepily beautiful church since. It could be one, five...ten times? Maybe none. They're closing their doors after the service on Mother's Day this year. We've been asked to play a final concert. Even though only a small number of us can actually make it, I'm very excited about the opportunity.

It's becoming a trend in my life for my actions to more accurately portray what's in my heart. Sounds cliche, but taking things for granted is the easiest thing in the world. Even though I strongly believe we create our lives from the inside out, I can easily detail the things I've lost when the outside didn't look like the inside. I've got to let go before it's too late. I'm getting there. Boy, am I getting there. I would love to play a few songs on Sunday morning to honor the investment of time and pride given to us by so many all those years ago. People believed in us and cared so much for us and our love for the music. During those years of my life, I didn't know there wasn't much more I could ask for.

I'm way off topic. I just wanted to give a shout to anyone who may want to come see a few members of The Beaumont Baroque Ensemble perform at Westminster on Sunday morning at 11am. I know it's Mother's Day, but what the heck...doesn't hurt to ask. Bring your mom. It would be nice to fill the house a bit. I hear they're down to only 16 members, which is why this Sunday is the last service.

Love.

11:36 am - I feel like we missed out on a big opportunity...
Statement: "Something Big is Happening"
9 July 2008
Rep. Ron Paul, M.D.

Madam Speaker, I have, for the past 35 years, expressed my grave concern for the future of America . The course we have taken over the past century has threatened our liberties, security and prosperity. In spite of these long-held concerns, I have days--growing more frequent all the time--when I'm convinced the time is now upon us that some Big Events are about to occur. These fast-approaching events will not go unnoticed. They will affect all of us. They will not be limited to just some areas of our country. The world economy and political system will share in the chaos about to be unleashed.

Though the world has long suffered from the senselessness of wars that should have been avoided, my greatest fear is that the course on which we find ourselves will bring even greater conflict and economic suffering to the innocent people of the world--unless we quickly change our ways.

America , with her traditions of free markets and property rights, led the way toward great wealth and progress throughout the world as well as at home. Since we have lost our confidence in the principles of liberty, self reliance, hard work and frugality, and instead took on empire building, financed through inflation and debt, all this has changed. This is indeed frightening and an historic event.

The problem we face is not new in history. Authoritarianism has been around a long time. For centuries, inflation and debt have been used by tyrants to hold power, promote aggression, and provide “bread and circuses” for the people. The notion that a country can afford “guns and butter” with no significant penalty existed even before the 1960s when it became a popular slogan. It was then, though, we were told the Vietnam War and the massive expansion of the welfare state were not problems. The seventies proved that assumption wrong.

So it finally happened. The CD was unleashed this week, and I beseech you to drink it in. Go pick up a copy and help me tickle the cosmos. It's something I'm proud of, and I would love for you to be a part of it. Nana loves you. Trust me.

It's available at places like Best Buy, Target, Wal-Mart, etc. It will even be available at HEB and Cracker Barrel soon. Yeah, no kidding. Pretty surreal.

Love you. Bye.

Beautiful and inspiring things happen everyday. My eyes are open to everything - good and bad - this experience can give me. Today, I must say, was one of the most amazing days I've had in a long time. The way things work out and the beauty that the appreciation of ones soul can exude drops a lump into my throat and brings a tear to my eye. The future is truly a bright one, and I cannot wait for what tomorrow will bring to me. Check out the following links, and smile with all your soul...

12:55 pm - We're floating in space, people.
Had a dream that my cat was waking me up with a face-cuddle. But I woke up a few minutes ago to an empty bed. There are some days that I miss her more than I'd expect to by now. Other days I know life goes on.

Took the dog for a walk. Talked to some neighbors.

Walked back home and felt like playing in the sprinkler. Laid in the grass and watched the sky until I remembered that I used to feel like this all the time - a wet kid in the backyard.

I wonder if I'll always remember what's really important to me. i don't want to get distracted by temporary fascinations that looked so appealing from a distance. I think I'll always want the good stuff.

Hug your cat today. And give her a big kiss. Keep doing it until you annoy her and she bats at you with her little paw. Savor that cold little nose like it's the last time you'll ever feel her shove it against your face.

7:07 pm - Ladies and ladies....
Come celebrate life with me this Saturday night as we throw a wicked house party. Should be a good time. No, a great time. So many fantastic people have already said they'd be there. Call/email/shout for directions and whatnot. We'll have a keg...light beer, of course. So if you want something else...bring it.

While I'm pluggin:

Spiritual Machines have a couple shows coming up. We're playing a new venue for us on July 6. Headhunters on Red River and 7th. We're headlining so come late. We're also headlining at Troubadour Saloon on Friday July 21. They're giving us two hours that night to rock you plum silly. Our last Troubadour show was effin' awesome. The turnout was stellar. Looking forward to next time.

Exciting stuff. I love you.

11:02 am - Sorry, but it's really cute as a button...
I've been waking up each morning in the cutest little bed and breakfast in Monteagle, Tennessee for the better part of a week now. I really don't have anything to say. I'm still overwhelmed by the tidal wave of relaxation and the memories that find me here.

I just wanted to use the wireless connection in this hundred-year-old house to post an entry before I leave in a couple days.
